Details emerge on alleged motorcycle accident injuring CHP

A story made national news when reports of a Reno man intentionally running over a CHP went viral. According to reports, he stopped to make a routine traffic stop on the I-80 when a Reno man used an F-150 to intentionally hit the CHP and then fled the scene of the accident. Drugs are thought to have been a factor in the accused’s decision-making process and the truck used to allegedly strike the motorcycle accident victim was stolen. The fact that the man was on a motorcycle left the injured largely unprotected from the impact and force of the F-150.

As of late, the CHP officer’s condition has improved from critical to serious condition, but he is far from out of the woods. The costs associated with this type of motorcycle accident injury can be exorbitant, but it is likely the family and the CHP are seeking only the best medical care for the injured. The Reno man accused of the crime was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle and drug offenses for the incident. These charges, if proven, can all be used as proof in a personal injury suit.

For other Reno residents who have been affected personally or a loved one has suffered from a motorcycle accident injury, you know how hard this must be for the officer and his family. There are many reasons those who have been injured may want to avenge the person who left them injured. Whether intentionally injured (as in the case of the officer) or an accident causing injury (like a distracted driver) the result can be equally devastating. Serious injuries due a motorcycle accident need to be taken seriously in the short and long term.

Motorcyclists have the right to a safe and injury-free ride. Sometimes other drivers make mistakes that take this right away from motorcyclists.
